About
Carla Palmese

Born and raised in Pasadena, California, Carla attended Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles on a scholarship of merit and graduated with a B.F.A. in Fine Arts and Ceramics. Chouinards was partially sponsored by Walt Disney, who supplied the instructors from his very own stable of artists that he had personally gathered to be his fledgling animators.  They taught with an emphasis on classic drawing and animal studies and she still maintains this unique ability to draw and paint subjects from the animal kingdom.

She joined Vandor Imports, San Francisco, a cutting-edge wholesale giftware company, as their designer and head of the art department. Vandor relied on her ability to assess coming market trends in home décor and giftware and to supply them with a continuous line of designs in a multitude of mediums: ceramic, paper, fabric and glass.  Working with suppliers throughout the Orient, she was responsible for overseas samples and quality. She designed product displays for showrooms as well as booths at various trade shows throughout the western states.

With her design experience, she began her pursuit of painting and fine art.  Moving to the Southern Oregon countryside, she set up her painting and ceramic studio.  She was invited to teach an art class at Rogue Community College, Grants Pass, Oregon, entitled ‘Impressionist Painting and Techniques,’ which was taught plien air.

While continuing her growing fine arts business, she returned to university to pursue her master’s degree from Southern Oregon University, Ashland, Oregon, graduating with a M.A. in Theater Arts as a member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society.

She worked with Rogue Music Theater, in Grants Pass, as their costume and set designer for many seasons. She also wrote and produced her own musical about the journey of Lewis and Clark, which was performed under the auspices of Rogue Community College.  She used this opportunity to simultaneously  teach a class on costume design, that utilized the students creations in building costumes for the actual production.

Carla consulted with the Exhibits Department at the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History to work on the Ralph Ralph W. Schreiber Hall of Bird to paint murals depicting the Saskatchewan prairies and the Amazon rain forest, a permanent museum exhibit. She also created curated reproductions of Zuni pottery for the Native American Hall.

She continues to travel the western states and the plains of Montana, keeping her art at its finest peak, recording on canvas those beautiful scenes for perpetuity.
